Carnival of Fun at Ronald McDonald House

The Inspired Occasion, in partnership with Little Big Company, is event managing and styling a party and graduation ceremony for Ronald McDonald House guests in Melbourne at the Parkville House.

On October 20, we will be joining forces and hosting a carnival themed celebration for families that have relied on the support of Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Learning Program.

Ronald McDonald House is an affordable home-away-from-home for the families of seriously ill children being treated at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Rather than spend the night in a hospital waiting room, family members can stay in comfort at Ronald McDonald House where they also receive support from staff, volunteers or other families who are sharing similar experiences.

Facilities include private family rooms, shared bathroom, kitchen and lounge facilities, quiet rooms and play areas.

Established in 1986, Ronald McDonald House at Parkville accommodates 47 families each night of the year.  Since opening its doors the House has provided a ‘home away from home’ for approximately 36,000 nightly guests each year. As hospital stays, treatments and surgeries increase annually, so does the demand for this much needed service.

The House is an ideal place for families to be together, offering the comforts of home during one of the most critical times in their lives.

Located close to the Royal Children’s Hospital, which admits Australia's most complex paediatric patients, parents know they are not far from their child’s bedside when not with them on the ward. The location also allows sick children to reside at the House with their parents and siblings if they are well enough, and go to the hospital for daily treatment.

The House is a vital support service for so many families in need, offering warmth and inspiration and allowing friendships to be formed as families share a similarly challenging journey. The House is a place where everyone understands the importance of small ‘wins’ and the celebrations that come with these along with the empathy and outpouring of love when facing immense sadness in their lives.

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program (RMLP) provides tailored education programs to help students recovering from serious illnesses, such as cancer and cystic fibrosis, to catch up on their missed education.

The RMLP offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to overcoming the learning difficulties brought about due to illness and school absence.   Outside our program there is little assistance for the educational needs of seriously ill children. There are no additional support systems, groups or organisations that offer one-to-one teaching for these children with a qualified teacher.  Medical and educational professionals are extremely supportive of the program as they acknowledge the gap in current services for these children.

The RMLP is an Australian initiative with international recognition. The program is holistic and looks at all aspects of the students’ learning, providing services such as psychometric assessment, speech and occupational therapy along with weekly tuition from a highly qualified teacher. It currently supports 800 students across Australia from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The aim of this event is to put a smile on the families’ faces and as event mangers and stylists we feel the best way to help this wonderful organisation is to provide a fabulous party for those families affected by sickness or injury.

The chosen theme for the party is "Carnival" which seems very appropriate, with 100 children and their parents invited for afternoon tea.

The costs of ongoing treatment often causes a huge financial strain for the families involved and while The Inspired Occasion and Little Big Company will be donating a number of items to this fabulous day, we are also excited to announce that the following companies have joined us in contributing their products and services

Beth Jennings Photography
Jitterbugs Entertainment
Little Puddles
Park Eden
Bronnie Bakes
The Sweet Little Party Company

We will be developing a “Communities” page on our website which will be devoted to regular updates on the event, as well as other charities we are supporting and over the coming months we will tell the stories of all of our contributing companies, with more to join us in the near future.

Please contact alex@theinspiredoccasion.com.au if you or your company would like to contribute to this magical event. With more and more businesses contributing by the day we will be sure to update this blog very soon with more wonderful small business contributions.

Farewell in Style - with designer label edibles

A few weeks ago we were asked to design and style an over the top dessert station for a very special repeat client to celebrate her friend’s farewell. Her requests where Chanel cupcakes, designer shoe sugar biscuits, chandelier and lots and lots of candy jars and desserts.

It was a big challenge to design a table with so much food and candy with limited space in the venue. With 50 female guests gathering for a meal and an evening of fun our dessert station provided the WOW factor as the guests arrived.

All dessert station edibles, stationery and themed items were made and designed in-house, with even the dessert station canopy materials tailored specifically for this event.

Dessert Station Menu

Cake Pops
Cherry Coconut Slice
Cupcakes
Sugar Biscuits
Macarons
White Chocolate Ganache Tarts
Chocolate Bars
8 Assorted Candy Jars including persian fairy floss

The long table down the centre of the room was decorated with vases of lilies and our large bird cage, which was also filled with lilies, with a matching table runner and our silver candlesticks down the centre.

We were able to take these quick photos just prior to the guests arrival.

Girlie Christening/1st Birthday - Pinks and White

Pink and White themed party we put together for a client last month and as featured on Little Big company Blog.

The occasion was a Christening/1st Birthday celebration. The client chose a very girlie colour scheme of pink and white and wanted a pretty and whimsical design.

There were 45 guests, who all attended the Christening at the local church before coming to the private residence for the celebrations. The Inspired Occasion managed the event, organising the spit roast catering, food service staff, crockery and silverware requirements, as well as table, chair and linen hire. In keeping with the client’s chosen theme the tables were dressed with white table cloths and matching runners with lantern centrepieces.

We also provided a number of other hire items for the client to utilise such as our large silver drink tubs and bench seating for the children. All dessert station edibles, stationery and themed items were made and designed in-house, with even the pink and white dessert station canopy constructed specifically for this event.

The guests were served a hearty roast buffet lunch consisting of roast beef, chicken and pork with roast potatoes, and a selection of salads.

Our Dessert Station menu for the event:

Pink White Chocolate Ganache Macarons
Red Velvet with Buttercream cupcakes
Vanilla with Raspberry buttercream cupcakes
Raspberry Jelly Cups
Chocolate Mousse Cups

The dessert station was completed with two cylindrical jars filled with assorted pink and white candies, and two hanging lanterns with flickering candles under the backdrop which matched the lanterns centrepieces on the tables.

As a take-home thank you gift from the client all guests received a personalised bagged sugar cookie in a heart shape.

The client made her own birthday cake, which was presented on our cakestand on a riser. The cake, once cut, was a beautiful rainbow layer cake finished off with white buttercream and pink and silver cashous giving the table a finishing touch from the client herself.
